Days of summer - day 1

Today was the first official day of summer for us. Aurora has graduated from kindergarten! I still need to post her adorable first grade song video from her graduation ceremony.

It seems like only yesterday that she was starting her kindergarten journey. Pretty sure high school graduation will be here before I know it. So this summer I'm going to try to capture the little moments each day so that I can remember the little things that made up our time together.

Both girls had lice so today was spent doing lots of laundry and getting them deloused. It also rained so we had some serious boredom issues, but still managed to have a fun day, all things considered.

They were all a bit forlorn that it was raining and they couldn't play outside:

Aurora has become obsessed with some Australian show about a girl who can turn into a mermaid. Here she is "writing a report on mermaids" from iPad footage:

Aliyah, my perpetually naked child, wanted to show off her creation as well:

Easter egg hunt 2014

I took the girls to an Easter egg hunt this morning. If you blink you might miss it. There are so many kids and so many eggs that it is over before you can barely snap a photo. I didn't get any action shots of Aurora collecting eggs because she was way too fast. Thankfully Aliyah is still slow enough for me to keep up.

Aliyah just wanted to wave to the Easter bunny, so just Aurora is pictured this year.

Aliyah's prized possession was that Tootsie roll :)

Happy Easter!

Aurora Turns Six

Aurora had her golden birthday this year. She turned six years old on the sixth and we celebrated in grand style with a unicorn birthday party. She has been asking for a unicorn birthday party since last year so when she asked again this year I knew it would be well worth the money to see the smile on her face. We invited her closest friends to the neighborhood park and although it was a cold and rainy day (the rain eased up just before the party) everyone had lots of fun.
Aurora's main present was a new big girl bike

Princess Aurora with all of her friends

Look at that pose, I think she is enjoying herself
Aliyah liked to pet the unicorn
Aliyah had fun riding the unicorn too

It was hard to get them to stay still long enough for a photo

And then I got lots of these kinds of photos

Decorating edible unicorn horns

Aliyah's favorite: marshmallows
Cake time
Blowing out the candles

Being silly with her cupcake

Can't believe she is six years old already!

Spring Break 2014

Aurora was off from school this week for spring break. We kept busy with some fun outings and I didn't hear the words "I'm bored" until Thursday so not too bad, all things considered.

Children's Museum

On Monday we went to the new children's museum for the first time. There were some fun new exhibits and a big water area to play in.

Kiddie Acres Revisited

It's been almost four years since we visited Kiddie Acres and Aliyah is about the same age as Aurora was when we last visited.

She wasn't too sure about some of the rides. We had to stop the plane and car rides so she could get off early, but she really enjoyed the carousel and boat ride and she LOVED the pony ride.

It was a very windy day today, so Aurora's hair was blowing in her face but here is Aliyah's first experience at Kiddie Acres:

That last one was taken inside a rickety old metal cage atop a Ferris wheel. It was an interesting ride!

Sea World with Friends

On Friday we took a trip down to Sea World with some friends. One of Aurora's classmates lives in the neighborhood and we've become good friends with the family over the last few months. It was Aliyah's first trip to Sea World and Aurora hadn't been in a few years.

Now to rest and recover and get back to our normal routine next week.

Happy 2nd Birthday Aliyah

We celebrated two fun-filled years with this little girl on Saturday:

This photo was taken at our neighborhood park. We may have looked like a spectacle walking down the street with balloons attached to the jogging stroller, but I don't care. Thankfully Kevin doesn't mind too much when I get these crazy ideas. I heard this quote the other day, on Downton Abbey of all places, so I feel justified in using whatever means necessary to create family memories.

"The business of life is the acquisition of memories. In the end, that's all there is."

Last Thursday I invited a few of Aliyah's friends over to play. She loves all things cars, trucks, trains, etc. If it has an engine she loves it. So I set up all of her cars and trains for the kids to play with and served cupcakes. I had to help her blow out her candles because she wasn't too sure about them.

All in all, I think it was a great 2nd birthday for Aliyah. It's hard to believe she is two already!

Christmas Day 2013

Although we missed celebrating Christmas with family like we did last year, we had a lovely Christmas at home with the girls.

My Christmas present to myself was holiday photos with me in them. That way the kids can look back and see us all present in Christmas memories and I don't have to snap photos every few minutes. I set my camera up on a tripod before we started opening up presents and had it take a picture every 30 seconds. Here is our Christmas morning in all its glory:

The girls also got a dollhouse from Santa which is on the other side of the room from where we opened presents. It's bigger than them! The elves were hard at work until the wee hours of the morning putting this together for them.

We went to candlelight church service on Christmas Eve. Aurora looks a lot more grown up than when she went to this same service three years ago.

Happy Halloween 2013

Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf had fun trick or treating last night. It took Aliyah a little while to warm up to the whole idea, but before the night was through she was a pro.
